Free Program to Assist Victims of Traumatic Crimes
Survivors of Trauma Obtaining Resilience and Empowerment - (Re)STORE Peer Recovery Specialists facilitate this trauma-informed training and recovery support for crime survivors from anywhere in Virginia.
The goal is to facilitate ongoing recovery while preventing re-victimization and repeat hospitalization. The approach is strengths-based to empower individuals toward recovery. The curriculum includes modules on: trauma and resilience, loss and grief, self compassion, mindfulness, self-advocacy and others.
Thanks to an ALKERMES Inspiration Grants™ award, there is no cost to participants for this retreat style program, which runs from a Monday afternoon through Thursday lunch. Meals, lodging, tuition and transportation are included.
This is a one-year demonstration project, with 5 opportunities to participate. Space is limited to 12 people each time.
Referrals are encouraged from Victim Witness Programs, Domestic and Sexual Assault Crisis Centers, local Community Services Boards, advocates and service providers throughout Virginia. Participants must complete an application process and provide references at least 30 days in advance of a training. mhav.org/trauma-survivors
